This is between a 2.5 and 3 star, for me. Why?
I thought it was too much. I only needed one or two issues--maybe Noah's dad and Zane's Aunt patty. I didn't need the loan shark thrown in there on top of everything else. I guess I didn't want Zane down that ugly path. I didn't want him to be so dependent on Noah, because it did feel like he was the parent at times. Noah even calls him a kid several times and that's not right. Although, Zane is a lot more mature than most 24 year old guys, since he had to grow up and become an adult at age 14.
I also wanted more of them as a family with all the kids, even though I LOVED how Seth stepped right in and took Duncan and Hailey under his wing. He became another brother to them without question. I wanted to hear more about the kids at school picking on Duncan, I wanted to hear about the kids at school picking on Matt for Noah being gay and what he did to stop them. I wanted more game nights together, family dinners, breakfasts, etc. I didn't like the sneaking around they had to do, ie. the motel. They are together, show it at home--slowly just like you would in any other relationship. I would have liked to have seen what Seth thought about the relationship though, since Zane is only 4 years older than him. Was he really okay with it?
Zane was incredibly sappy. Holy hell, was he wordy at his declarations. Some made me swoon and others made me throw up a bit. HA! It was just too much. Noah was right there with him, but with him being 42 and not 24 he kept a lot of it in his head.
Overall, not sure what to tell you. It's hearts and flowers a lot, but there's some pretty depressing parts in there too. But the sap might get cha ;)
